The Smoke Wolf of Appalachia

Before televisions glowed in Appalachian homes, stories told around autumn fires were used to pass the time. Some folks spoke of lessons learned. Some made children laugh. Some left listeners glancing toward the darkened woods before making their way back home.

These stories do not disappear when they’re spoken aloud, rather they rise with the smoke and drift among the trees.

Some say if you're respectful to the ways of the mountains, if you’ve listened more than you’ve spoken, and if the fire has burned low, you may catch him watching from the darkness.

A hunter that does not hunt. A keeper of forgotten stories who carries them through the mountains until someone needs them again.  He never comes close enough to touch, only close enough to listen.

The Smoke Wolf.

The keeper of forgotten stories and guardian of the mountains.
